Many years ago, I was the recipient of the age old wisdom “plant the bottoms of the green onions after you chop them.”  For years, I would put them in my little windowsill containers and wait until they got about as tall as the container would let them and then chop them down.  The same onions could last about 3 cuttings before the growth just wasn’t worth it anymore.  The natural continuation of this tradition was to actually plant them in the ground once I got my new house.  So I planted some.  And they grew.  And they grew.  Boy did they grow!

Now, keep in mind that these have been growing since February without being cut.  I think I was wondering how tall they could get…

The Longest Onion

Now, it might be tough to see, but this particular stalk is longer than my arm.  This is not the full plant.  This is one stalk from the plant!  Several of these onions were about this long.  Of course, having so many onions this tall leads me to small dilema.  What am I going to do with all these onions!?
